Cosmetic Surgery Procedures & Their Purposes
Liposuction, breast implants, eyelid surgery, facelifts, nose jobs, and Botox injections are some of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures done today. The main goal of any cosmetic surgery is to correct a deformity or enhance the appearance of a person, thus improving his or her self-esteem by enhancing his or her appearance. Lipoplasty, also known as body sculpturing, provides a way of removing persistent deposits of fat that don’t form part of the ideal body image. The surgeon uses a small incision to vacuum all the fat. While there may be swelling, bruising, and even numbness in the suctioned area, you may feel better a few days after an operation and you can be able to return to work in a while, depending on the amount of fat removed.
Blepharoplasty, or simply eyelid surgery, is done to reshape the eyelids by removing bagginess, thus tightening loose skin around your eyelids. However, it does not get rid of fine wrinkle lines. In this case you may also experience some bruising after the surgery, and this may go on for a week or more. In addition, your vision may also become blurry afterwards, and you may experience dry eyes.
Another popular cosmetic surgery procedure is breast implants, which are saline-filled bags that surgeons slip in between the chest muscles and the breast tissue or the chest wall to improve the appearance of your breasts. After the surgery, it may take a day or two to feel better, get out of bed and return to your job. However, avoid vigorous exercise until after two or three weeks following surgery.
Rhinoplasty, or a nose job, on the other hand, involves reshaping your nose to give it the shape you desire. The skin is removed and the structure of the nose – the cartilage and bone – altered. Following a nose job procedure, you may stay up to two or three days before you begin feeling normal. Swelling and bruising can be worse during the first three days, but you should be able to feel normal within the first three weeks.
The skin of your face will tend to fold or sag as you age and a facelift can stretch your skin up toward your scalp to tighten and smoothen it. Like most other cosmetic surgery procedures, you will also experience swelling and bruising, but the bruising will normally fade away in two weeks or less, though the swelling may sometimes last longer than that. You may also experience some numbness in the face, but it should go away after several weeks. If all goes well you should be able to return to work in about two weeks after your operation. However, avoid the sun after the operation until you can return to your normal routine.
Botulinum toxin or simply Botox injections are effective against wrinkles and frown lines around the eyes. This procedure will paralyze the muscles in your forehead, resulting in decreased muscle movement around the eyes. While no major recovery is involved, there may be some swelling, numbness and bruising. The results do not last, however, as you need to return to your cosmetic surgeon every 3 – 4 months.
These are some of the most popular cosmetic surgeries that you may undergo to enhance your appearance and improve your self-esteem. However, talk to your doctor before you decide to have any of these procedures.
