In June 2007, 94 Southwest Florida physicians were given the title of the 'Gulfshore's Top Doctor". Twenty-two of those physicians, over 20 percent of the list, are located at Medical Surgical Specialists.

How does a physician become a "Top Doctor"?
The specialists who made the list must pass a rigorous set of criteria for inclusion. Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. in New York was asked to be the independent publisher of the list for Collier, Lee and Charlotte Counties' top physicians. Castle Connolly conducts a national survey of physicians, as well as of the medical leadership of many leading hospitals. After the votes are tallied, Castle Connolly then ensures the physicians meet the company's criteria, which include a board certification requirement, a minimum number of years of unsupervised experience in their specialties and a clean disciplinary record. Any additional training and/ or faculty appointments are factored in as well.
